How this calculator works
A weighted GPA rewards harder classes. Regular classes use the normal 4.0 scale, Honors classes add half a point and AP or IB classes add a full point.
Credits matter too: a full-year class (1 credit) counts twice as much as a semester class (0.5 credit).
Example: an A in AP Biology is worth 5.0, an A in Honors English is 4.5 and an A in regular Art is 4.0.

Frequently asked questions
+How is weighted GPA calculated?
Each grade is turned into points on a 4.0 scale, then Honors classes get +0.5 and AP/IB classes get +1.0. Multiply each class by its credits, add everything up and divide by total credits.
+Can a weighted GPA be higher than 4.0?
Yes. Because harder classes earn bonus points, a weighted GPA usually tops out at 5.0. A student with straight A's in AP classes would have a 5.0.
+Do colleges use weighted or unweighted GPA?
Both. Many colleges recalculate your GPA with their own formula, but they always see how hard your classes were. Taking Honors and AP courses helps even if a college unweights your GPA.
+My school gives +1.0 for Honors. Can I use that?
Yes. Switch “School scale” above the calculator to “Honors +1.0, AP/IB +1.0”.
+Is my data saved?
Your classes are saved only in your own browser, so they're still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to a server.
